standing position life size idol of Lord Hanuman carved out of a single stone is
situated in Sri Anjaneyar Temple at Namakkal town belongs to Namakkal district
in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The temple
is located in the downhill of the Namakkal hill on the road from
Namakkal to Salem. The temple has a flat gateway tower with a pillared
hall leading to the sanctum. The sanctum houses the image of Anjaneyar axially
facing the Narasimha shrine in the foothills, located 130 meter
(430 feet) away. The image of Anjaneyar is believed to be existing from
the 5th century. There is no roof over the sanctum (under open sky) and
Anjaneyar has a unique iconography sporting a sword in his waist and holding a
garland made of saligrama. The temple is considered one of the prominent
temples in Tamil Nadu state and India.
Devotees offer sacred tulsi garlands,
sweet-scented betel garlands and flower garlands for decorating Sri Hanuman.
Devotees offer milk, ghee, honey, sugar and nuts with full of devotion.
The temple
is open from 6:30 am to 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
