Large
Hanuman Statue is located at Hill View Stadium; Puttaparthi town belongs to
Anantapur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 84 kms
from the district headquarters Anantapur, 441 kms from the state capital city
Hyderabad, 154 kms from Bangalore and 375 kms from Chennai well connected by
road to all parts of Anantapur district. The original name of Puttaparthi
was Gollapalli.
Hill View
Stadium was established in 1997 and mainly used for cricket matches. Its seating
capacity is 25,000.
The place is
popularly known by the world at large as the birthplace of Sri Sathya Sai
Baba.
Puttaparthi
has a railway station named as Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam which
started functioning from 23rd November 2000. The town is connected
directly by train to Banglore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Mumbai, New
Delhi and Kolkata.
Puttaparthi
is a renowned pilgrim center and the location
of Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s
main ashram named as Prashanthi Nilayam which means literally "Abode of
the Highest Peace”.
Apart from
the main Ashram, Puttaparthi has other places of interest like a Hanuman temple,
a village mosque and Sathyabhama temple. Sathyabhama is well known
locally as 'Sathyamma'.
